The Nines is a 2007 drama film
written and directed by John August,
and starring Ryan Reynolds, Hope Davis, Melissa McCarthy, Elle Fanning and, as herself, Dahlia Salem.
The film debuted at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival,
and made $63,165 in the U.S. box office through October 11, 2007.[1]
The film is divided in to three acts:
“The Prisoner” tells of a troubled actor, Gary, under house arrest living in another person’s house because he burned down his own. While living in the house he is befriended by both a P.R. ‘handler’, Margaret, and the single mom next door, Sarah, who may or may not be interested in him romantically. Over the course of his house arrest, Gary becomes convinced that he is being haunted by the number nine.
“Reality Television” tells of a television writer, Gavin, trying to get his pilot made. The house he lives in is the house Gary later stays in. During the process of post production and the ‘upfronts’, a television executive, Susan, pushes for Gary to ditch the unconventional lead actress of his project, Melissa. This segment was somewhat inspired by writer/director John August’s own experiences in the television industry.
“Knowing” tells of an acclaimed video game designer, Gabriel, who is lost when his car breaks down, a situation shown in Gavin’s pilot. Gabriel leaves his wife and daughter with the stranded vehicle and meets up with Sierra, a mysterious woman.
This film explores the concept of simulated reality.

Luise und Lotte lernen sich zufallig in einem Ferienheim kennen und merken schnell, dass sie Zwillinge sind, die man nach der Geburt getrennt hat. “Numb” tells the story of screenwriter Hudson Milbank (Matthew Perry), who suffers from acute depersonalization disorder. So alienated from his own life that he makes the chronically depressed look perky, Hudson lives alone, watches the Golf Channel all day, can’t hang on to a relationship, shoplifts in order to get his adrenalin up off the floor, fears that thinking about his dad’s death will bring it to pass, loathes his mother and, in general, is as nutty as a crapshack in a peanut farm. Obsessed with the underlying sadness that infuses his wretched existence, Hudson is a man in hell, but he thinks that his long catalogue of dismally unsatisfying and mutually self-destructive relationships is over when Sara stumbles into his life. He knows she can save him. She knows he has to save himself. Together they save each other. And “Numb” is funny too.

Cartoonists Eric and Bill Teitelbaum skewer the world of business and finance in BOTTOM LINERS, a nationally syndicated business comic panel appearing six times weekly and distributed by Tribune Media Services.
Growing up in a household where Wall Street investing and comedy writing seemed to go hand-in-hand, the Teitelbaum brothers used their drawing and humor skills to successfully mix business with pleasure to create a merger that has America’s work force laughing in BOTTOM LINERS.
The brothers once again team up as the writers and artists of the new PINK PANTHER comic strip, launching in 2005 in honor of the classic character’s 40th birthday. Switching gears with the release of the PINK PANTHER, Eric and Bill deliver fun sight gags synonymous with this lovable panther that has made audiences laugh and smile for years. Also distributed by TMS, PINK PANTHER addresses contemporary issues with a color Sunday comic strip.
Bill Teitelbaum is an award-winning art director and graphic designer. He has created, designed and written for new animated characters and programs for TV, licensing and manufacturing.
Eric Teitelbaum’s designs and illustrations have appeared in major publications, including the New Yorker, Forbes and Family Circle. He also lectures nationwide at leading colleges and universities on cartooning, comedy writing and arts marketing.
Bill is a graduate of California State University, Los Angeles with a major in art. Eric has an undergraduate degree in art from UCLA and a master’s degree in art from CSULA.
